Established 1943
Tehama Angus Ranch is a registered Angus cattle operation that has been in business since 1943. The ranch primarily focuses on raising bulls to market to commercial cattlemen for breeding. Throughout the year steers and heifers not suitable for breeding stock are removed from the herd and are fattened for beef. The ranch feels that the quality of their beef is over and above any other due to the elite genetics bred into the cattle. The ranch utilizes artificial insemination to breed for increased intra-muscular fat, greater amounts of muscle, and decreased back fat, creating a cut that will simply melt in your mouth.
Quality
Tehama Angus Beef is guaranteed customer satisfaction. Due to breeding selection for intramuscular fat and above average muscling, cattle will grade USDA Average Choice or higher and will not have an overabundant amount of back fat.
High quality is also maintained due to cattle never receiving implants, growth hormones, or feed additives. Furthermore, beef will have increased flavor and juiciness due to the corn that they are finished on. All cattle will be harvested between 14-18 months of age to guarantee tenderness.
Cattle are harvested at Johansen’s Quality Meats in Orland, Ca, where they are dry-aged for 14-21 days increasing flavor and tenderness even more.
Diet
Steers and heifers are fed the same high quality ration as yearling bulls with additional corn. All of the feedstuffs are grown on the ranch. These include corn, a variety of different hay, and almond hulls from the orchards.
Corn is the key ingredient when feeding cattle to be harvested. It is used to fatten cattle for harvest earlier, therefore increasing ten-derness and juiciness. Consequently corn-fed beef will be have a sweet appetizing flavor compared to a more mature grass-fed animal.
